Oil Exploration has been ongoing in the Albertine Graben since the 1920’s.

Oil in the Albertine Graben

  • The Albertine Graben is part of the East African rift system

  • Most of the worlds known recoverable oil reserves occur in rift systems

  • Highly prospective area with an 88% drilling success rate

  • 6 Billion barrels of oil discovered

  • Underexplored with less than 40% of the basin explored to date

  • All major discoveries are land based

  • TotalEnergies currently developing the Northern fields and building a Central Processing Facility (~1.5 B bbl OOIP)

  • Export pipeline in construction (FID 2022, Complete 2025) capacity expected to produce 210,000 barrels per day
